The engine was partially dismantled before we received the tractor. The main bearings are all cracked and broken and will need to be repoured. This will be done on the tractor to insure perfect alignment with the gearing. The differential gear had 4 broken springs.

Frame now sand blasted and painted. Steering and drum have newly poured babbit bearings .Detailed photos are taken of all parts as they are removed to document original condition and placement. Pictured is Steve Ott, who has over 30 years experience in major engine and tractor restoration and is coordinating this project.

The vertical sides of the fenders were in good shape but the fenders were marginal so we are making new ones.

March 2007

The new square radiator has been built. The stiffeners, tray supports and baffles have all been riveted into place exactly as the original one was made. The old radiator was used as the bottom of an out house and was very deteriorated

The crankshaft was sent out to be ground and welded back to standard size. Connecting rod bearings have been poured and bored to match the crankshaft journals We poured the main babbited bearings with the crank is in place to get the proper alignment and clearances with the gears. Note serial number stamped in one of  the keys.

Things are going together quickly. We made all new valves and valve guides, repaired a crack on one of the heads, made 2 new flanges  the exhaust flanges on the manifold, cleaned the 14 drip lubricator and Kingston carburetor, made a new stainless steel fuel pump shaft and replaced 3 teeth on the magneto drive gear.

May 19

Start up day was May 16th. On May 19th after a few hours of run time including some baker fan time, the bearings stayed cool and we put the tractor to work for a short time on the saw mill . No glitches and a lot of smiles. The tractor ran as well as we expected given the amount of time and expense with the project. Only decals, a few small items and canopy are left
